Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY

This week had loads of fun on Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY. Seems to be a very well thought out machine oh and they don’t skimp on the extras.
Not the simplest of machines to operate but once you get over it’s little quirks let’s face it we all have them.
I mean I keep scratching my bollocks but as long as its not in public or in front of the wife I usually get away with it.

This machine has one turret and two spindles both spindles have a rotary C axis. The Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY has a Y axis the clues in the title.
Most impressive of all is the 24 station turret which means you can be more tooled up than Arnold Schwarzenegger on his birthday.
There are half stations so you can get special holders that cover two stations.
The other option is to space the tools out like a twelve station turret.
I mean these tools are like elephants in a fuckin lift meaning you don’t have much clearance.
You need to look out for the tool below if you do decide to cram more tools in. If you know what it’s like to run out of tool stations then you won’t mind compromising a bit.
Congratulations Mr and Mrs Doosan on the Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY, it might be a compromise but it works well.
Fanuc Speed Amnesia
Why can’t a Fanuc control remember the speed.
Age old problem, you try to start the spindle in manual and it sits there fuckin laughing at you. So you have to go into MDI and start the spindle or just give it a speed before you can manually start any of the two spindles.
Speed amnesia so bloody annoying, come on girls give us a break. Logically if you have to start the spindle in MDI is there really any point of a manual spindle on off button. Mmmmm.
Icons I hate Icons
I can never remember what all the buttons are on these machines. What chance has someone who’s only experience of working a machine was in Costas

Anyway I have a labelling machine so I stuck em everywhere. Does it really cost that much money to have different button on a machine for an English speaking country than say a French one?
I could sell Doosan my labelling machine, maybe that’s the solution.
Engage C Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY
Dead easy just press left or right spindle and your there. Some machines make such a fuss of this it’s like your asking the machine to predict Loto numbers. No, I just want to rotate the fuckin C axis with the Handwheel.
So that’s a big plus.
Machine has a real solid well built feel to it and a bit like my mother in-law it’s going to be around for a very long time.
The Control
Now I’m going to moan and praise in equal measures. This machine has at least three ways of doing everything. Now this is great for people like me who love playing with gadgets and never done an honest days work in their life.
But for a total beginner it’s a shit storm. I’m never sure which way to show them. You have what I call traditional Fanuc. Then you have Guide i. Then you have EZ Guide.
I love em all and I can give you great things about them but for training you risk confusing the living shit out of your trainees. What do you show them?
- One guy worked on traditional Fanuc for years.
- One guy always used Guide i.
- One guy new to CNC machining.
So the first one I might stick with the traditional Fanuc and show them how much better the Graphics and the editing are in Manual Guide. Maybe show them a few things like the M and G code lists in EZ.

Second one I think just stick with Guide i and hope they don’t notice the other screens and ask too many questions.
Third one new comer I’d show them EZ but then have to add a bit of Guide i
One of the guys I trained this week was already competent with Guide i and basic Fanuc. This meant he could take in a lot of the extra stuff without being totally confused.
Don’t get me wrong I love the control cos it kind of gives a versatility to it but fuckin hell give me a break I train folks for a living.
How do you set a tool offset Mr Garner? (I don’t allow first names)
“Well I can give you five answers to that question.” I could be a polititian with that level of subterfuge and bullshit.
Tool Measurement Arm Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY
As you might already know with a sub spindle machine each station can have two offsets one for the left spindle and one for the right. T0101 left. T0126 right.
This means left side uses offset one and right uses offset 26.
Machines I have worked on you have to set tool 26 on your pre-setter write it down and enter it by hand. That’s because the tool arm jumps to the offset corresponding to the turret position.
Pain in the arse.
Now I haven’t seen this on a machine before. I know that by parameter you can stop the machine from jumping to the offset.
On this Doosan Lynx 2100 LSY you can set the machine to jump to said offset but then at the press of two buttons it will allow you to move to another offset.
Genius I think this is great. Just let me know if it’s me or is this something great on a Doosan machine? Anyway I fuckin love it.
