The Hurco tool changer is a strange old beast but trust me you will get to love and respect it as time goes on.

First of all you can call the tool anything you like, well sort of as long as it’s a number.
Anyway I’m confusing myself here, you give it a number from 1 to 999
You then decide if it is AUTO or MANUAL. The control will then decide what to do with it.
To define a tool go to Tool Setup Screen type in a new number for your new tool.
As you go to each dropdown menu the option will appear on the right as well.
Now pick your tool, fill in diameter of the tool. Select which coolant type you want PRIMARY is usually the main nozzle supply and SECONDARY is through spindle.
Hurco Tool Changer
This is where your Hurco starts to get smart, it can calculate your speed based on the SURFACE SPEED you give it. I will also calculate the feed rate based on the number of teeth you have and FEED/REV you give it.
Don’t worry it still works if you wear dentures.
If you know the speed you want then type it in and your HURCO will tell you what surface speed this is.
You don’t need to give it the TOOL CAL LENGTH (tool length) yet.
If you move back up to the TOOL NUMBER on the right you’ll see a button that says MORE, press this until you see ADVANCED OPTIONS
This gives you more information and a nice fancy graphic. I love this bit.

Hurco tool changer AUTO
When a tool is designated AUTO, the machine will put it away in a pocket of it’s choice.
These pockets are chosen by the machine so you don’t need to know what they are, so please mind your own business.
Hurco Tool changer MANUAL
When a tool is designated MANUAL the machine will very politely ask you to load it in the spindle and then when you call a new tool it will ask you to remove it.
Sooooo, to do a tool change all you need to do is type in the number and Press the AUTO button below.
It is a bit confusing that there are two manual and two auto buttons. Makes it very confusing for training. (See above)
But it does say Tool Changer in big letters above it so you have been warned.
Never try to load tools into the side tool changer as you are not to access this and it will cause an utter shit storm if the machine gets confused.
